First look at the Rory's Story Cubes® iPhone application

Posted by: Anita Murphy in usabilityTechnologyrory's story cubes on Print PDF

We are looking for feedback on the interface of our Rory's Story Cubes® iPhone application (coming soon). We want the application to be as universally accessible as the physical game and wish to keep text explanations to a minimum.

Please click on the image below to view full-size. Then take a look at the buttons on the left of the screen and tell us what function you think each performs. There are no prizes, just the warm, fuzzy feeling of knowing you helped us out.

Looks great. The icons seem clear and obvious. I know that the cubes are black and white but it looks a little bland at the moment. Have you considered making the cubes appear three dimensional with a table top for a background? Also, the 3x3 grid display is fine but a little too ordered. If you go with a 3d rendering of the cubes you could have them appear in a less rigidly structured way, after all, they don't end up in a perfect 3x3 grid on the table...

One other thought, I don't know what the budget is for the app but it would be really pretty cool if you could rearrange the cubes on the table once the roll is made... more interactivity...

Ah Stephen, I should have known! you're jumping ahead! What you are seeing is just the start screen for the app. You can shake to roll the cubes, drag and rotate them into a sequence. Is this what you were thinking? We are trying to mimic real world play as much as possible.
